Actions taken at special school board meeting
The Gentry School Board, at a special meeting Thursday afternoon, voted to award Janco, Inc. the school’s custodial services contract because of the necessity placed upon the district to cut expenses – not because of any dissatisfaction with the services of in-house custodians. The decision, it was estimated, will save the district more than $100,000 per year.
The board also unanimously chose to further pursue the more conservative debt-restructuring options presented to the board April 13 by Dennis Hunt of Stephens, Inc., The options presented would save the district an estimated $100,000 through a lower interest rate and extend a portion of the bonded debt a few more years for an initial boost to the school district’s year-end balances at a minimal cost to the district.
The board heard about moneys the district may receive through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 over the next two years, and how that money would have to be used.
Action was also taken regarding the school district’s accreditation.
