Octoberfest Pageant contestants still needed

The ninth annual Octoberfest Pageants will be held in conjunction with Gentry’s Octoberfest activities scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 10.
Gentry Middle School Future Business Leaders of America and Gentry Middle School Parent Involvement will be sponsoring the annual Miss Octoberfest Pageants in the Gentry High School Auditorium.

Gentry students arrested for bomb threats

Three juveniles were arrested in connection with Thursday’s threats of a bomb at a Gentry school, and a fourth juvenile is being called “a person of interest.”

Though schools will remain open, police and school officials are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of students and staff at the schools. In addition to police presence and extra precautions by faculty and staff at the schools, bomb-sniffing dogs will be brought to the schools for a search in the morning.

Gentry Police looking for robbery suspect

Police are looking for a man who attempted to rob the Smith Drug Store in Gentry shortly before 4 p.m. today.

Tonight’s Planning and Zoning Commission

On the agenda for tonight’s Planning and Zoning Commission are two items tabled at the last meeting due to lack of time: 1 City sign ordinance; 2. Keeping domestic farm animals within city limits. Also on the agenda is a sign variance request for the Garden Gate flower shop on Main Street.

GHS Art Club offered face painting at festival

Students from the Gentry High School Art Club helped with the Highfill Hay Daze celebration on Saturday by offering face painting. Children at the festival took advantage of the club’s artistic work and wore a variety of painted images on their faces and arms.
