YouTube fun: Nutt’s finger gun and Miles’ lie?
The LSU-Ole Miss game Saturday certainly was high in drama.
The confusion at the end, which resulted in LSU burning the final second off the clock on the Rebels’ 5-yard line was unbelievable. With a chance to kick a game-winning field goal, the Tigers spiked the ball and burned the final tick off the game clock to send Ole Miss to a 25-23 win.
Confusion spread across the LSU sideline in the final seconds. The staff was divided on what plays to call and they also burned 17 seconds off the clock trying to call a timeout they never received. So what was the deal with Coach Les Miles and his staff?
Here’s more from The Associated Press on the final play:
When reporters asked Miles which coach decided to try to spike the ball before the clock restarted rather than going for a field goal, he said he wasn’t yet sure and would have to find out. Jordan Jefferson and the Tigers never got lined up anyway and Ole Miss earned its second straight win over the Tigers and the first at home since 1998.
Did Miles lie or just play dumb? Video evidence from WBRZ shows Miles calling for the spike as the team ran down to the 5-yard line.
Amazing stuff, right?
There will be plenty of finger pointing going on in Baton Rouge this week after the Tigers dropped from 10th to 17th in The Associated Press poll Sunday. You wonder how the Tigers will respond this week as they prepare for Arkansas, one of the hottest teams in the SEC.
Speaking of finger-pointing, how about some fun video from the LSU-Ole Miss game? Check out the Brothers Nutt in this video. See the finger guns from Danny Nutt?
My favorite part is watching Mike Markuson James Shibest correcting Houston Nutt’s call for a kick on the PAT. The realization by Nutt – followed by him pushing back coaches and players on the sideline for no apparent reason — is priceless.
Great game, great videos.
If you’re looking for some Arkansas-centric video and stories, check out video and a short story on Arkansas offensive coordinator Paul Petrino arriving in Western Kentucky last night to interview for the head coaching job there and our coverage from Arkansas’ 42-21 trouncing of Mississippi State on WholeHogSports.com.
Shibest.....not Markuson
Thanks for the heads up, Steve. No idea why I was thinking Coach Markuson.
Les is unbelievable. Take the heat man! you're the head coach. Talk about leaving your QB and other coaches out to dry! hahaha amazing. Stutters Miles, didn't even make sense in that press conference. Recruits take notice. I wonder how his QB felt climbing out from underneath that bus your coach threw you in front of!
I was as big an Ole Miss fan as there was yesterday. I hate LSU and am happy to see them lose anytime. After living in Baton Rouge for two years, I was never so glad to leave a city in my life (although the food was incredible!). That being said, I hope our players realize that it will take our best effort of the season to beat LSU this week. Even more so than the effort at Florida because it is always VERY tough for the Hogs to beat LSU; maybe there's some sort of mental hurdle or something, but the players have to get past that this week. The defense MUST play solid, and Ryan and the receivers must have a great day.
Speaking of Ryan, I surely hope he sticks around for two more years. It will take that kind of committment on behalf of the best players we have to start to build a solid winning foundation. A one-and-done or even two-and-done stint by Ryan will likely have very negative repercussions on our ability to continue winning. I know he needs to look out for himself and his welfare, but I sincerely hope he sticks around AND stays healthy.
Is Danny Nutt coaching again? I thought the SEC advised HDN that Danny could not be in the press box or sidelines coaching but he is apparently right on the sidelines dressed out like a coach.
Shibest.....not Maruksuon
Danny Nutt is not supposed to be on the sidelines, yet the Brothers Nutt continue to give the SEC and the NCAA the finger. It is only a matter of time before those shenanigans catch up with them.
Vintage Nutt. Too busy cheer leading instead of coaching. I caught this live as well and just laughed while shaking my head.
Odd that the video of the Nutts finger-gunning was taken down but the clip right above it from the same game is allowed to be up. Who asked to have the Nutts finger-gunning taken down?
